Queer culture in New York and LA isn’t hard to find once you know whose taste to trust. This page collects the theater, galleries, film screenings, and live shows our members keep coming back to, and keep telling each other about. 10th Muses exists because "queer-friendly" is a low bar — this list starts higher.
A good pick here isn’t just LGBTQ-owned or booked once for Pride. Look for venues and events where queer women, trans, and nonbinary people are in the room regularly, not just welcomed — where the crowd, the booking, and the door staff all reflect that.
Below, you’ll find spots and events our members have personally recommended — the ones that come up unprompted in our group chats and post-event debriefs. Each one made this list because someone in our community vouched for it, not because it paid for placement.
Every entry starts as a member recommendation, then gets checked against what our community actually reports back after going. We update or remove picks when the experience stops matching the reputation. This list reflects lived experience, not a press release.
Queer culture clusters differently across boroughs and across LA’s east and west sides — some neighborhoods are dense with it, others have one anchor venue worth the trip. This breakdown gives you a starting map, built from where our members actually spend their time.
